New Toy time

Every now and again I get tempted, very tempted. Normally that ends one way. With a purchase.
This time I had to make an emotive decision, to move away from my beloved Pentax equipment for wildlife photography to fund to the new equipment. For (nearly) 20 years I have been shooting with Pentax, but since last years OM1 purchase it was getting less and less use. So I decided to sell all my long telephoto K mount lenses and even my 645 600mm A* lens.
Why was I tempted? Lens selection.
The more serious I have got the more I have lusted after big primes and they simply don't exist in new updated lightweight versions within the Pentax universe. When I saw how little the Nikon 800mm PF 6.3 weighs (2.4kg) I was blown away, and then I saw the price, a relative bargain. There is nothing like it elsewhere, not with f6.3 anyway (canon and sony have 800mm zooms which are as light or lighter but they are f9 and f8 respectively).
The other thing that made it possible was being able to pick up a super cheap Z6iii (£1500). Ok so not the last word in AF, but I can upgrade to a Z8 if the fancy takes me.
So I'll keep the OM1 and 300 + 100-400 for the lightest walk around kit, but the big Nikon will be the go to for birds.
What about Pentax? Well I'll never sell all of my gear, my K1 and 645z will remain for other static shots, but for anything moving it will be OM or Nikon.
